Step-by-Step Guide to Revamping Your Bathroom

1. Planning and Design

  • Budget: Determine your budget to understand the scope of your project.

  • Layout: Plan the layout considering plumbing and electrical points.

  • Materials and Fixtures: Select materials for flooring, tiles, paint, fixtures, and fittings.

2. Demolition

  • Clear the Space: Remove old fixtures, tiles, flooring, and any other outdated elements.

  • Dispose Waste Properly: Ensure all debris is disposed of safely and in compliance with local regulations.

3. Floor Installation

  • Subfloor Preparation: Inspect and repair the subfloor. Install new floorboards if necessary.

  • Waterproofing: Apply a waterproof membrane to prevent water damage.

4. Plastering Walls and Ceilings

  • Preparation: Clean the surfaces and apply a bonding agent.

  • Plastering: Apply plaster in thin, even coats. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next.

  • Sanding: Sand the dried plaster to a smooth finish.

5. Painting

  • Primer: Apply a primer suitable for high-moisture areas.

  • Paint: Use moisture-resistant paint in your chosen color. Apply at least two coats for even coverage.

6. Tiling

  • Wall Tiling:

    • Preparation: Measure and mark guidelines for tiles.

    • Adhesive Application: Apply tile adhesive to small sections at a time.

    • Tile Placement: Place tiles, using spacers for even gaps.

    • Grouting: Once adhesive is dry, apply grout between tiles.

  • Floor Tiling: Follow similar steps as wall tiling, ensuring the floor is level and tiles are placed correctly.

7. Fixture Installation

  • Plumbing: Install new plumbing fixtures such as the sink, toilet, and shower/bath.

  • Electrical: Ensure all electrical work (lighting, outlets, etc.) is done by a qualified electrician.

  • Fittings: Install towel racks, mirrors, and other accessories.

8. Finishing Touches

  • Sealants: Apply sealant around edges of tiles, fixtures, and fittings to prevent water ingress.

  • Cleaning: Thoroughly clean all surfaces to remove dust and debris.

  • Inspection: Inspect the finished work to ensure everything is up to standard and functioning correctly.

Benefits of a Bathroom Revamp
